The Residency program doesn’t have any deadlines. It works on a first come first serve basis. If you have a project that you think aligns with the mandate and values of lemonTree creations, please contact Artistic Producer, Indrit Kasapi at firstname.lastname@example.org
We’re mostly interested in projects that are in their initial phases of development; however, don’t be discouraged from contacting us if you feel strongly about working with us.
As 2016/2017 playwright in residence at lemonTree creations I am swimming in the ripples of Nick Green’s play Body Politic, excavating the histories of Toronto's less thoroughly archived queer communities to generate responsive new work across disciplines. In order to represent many voices with integrity, I will invite many voices into the telling, necessarily complicating an exploration of what Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie calls “the danger of the single story.
Directed by Jasmine Chen and in collaboration with Michael Man, Jonathan Tan and Jeff Ho, this project seeks to use "fiercely political" queer Asian American poet Justin Chin’s writing as a launching pad to explore the intersectionality of Queer and Asian identities. By engaging with his text, the team will examine the complexities of this intersection and how it affects all aspects of life: family, religion, relationships, social status, body image, discrimination, etc.
